You can wear whatever you would wear on a daily basis, as long as it is comfortable. You will be moving, sometimes sweating so if it's better to wear work out pants instead of jeans or a dress, that is your call! As you move further on, you can dress the part, especially for nights out, showcases and or performances etc.
Shoes can start very casual, so if you want to wear sneakers, heels, or dress shoes, that is fine. As you move along in your dance, you may want to invest in ballroom heels, or dance shoes. They are very flexible for your foot to move in, with a suede sole, giving you a better connection to the floor. You will find that at times sneakers have their place, but most tend to stick to the floor, which won't allow for movement associated with ballroom or partner dancing. The only exception to this is Hip Hop or Lindy Hop dance. Either way, we can recommend places where you can get appropriate footwear when your ready.
No problem. There is no partner required! Sometimes taking lessons individually speeds up the learning process so that you can understand the information coming to you. Remember, the dance comes from you first, so the better you understand yourself, your movement and self expression, the better partner you are going to be. Your instructor will be your partner. Everything will go at your pace so you can test and practice your new skills! We encourage you that if you have the desire, take action. You come first, and don't you deserve all of the fun that comes with dancing? :)
That is the very reason why you need lessons!! Congratulations on making the decision to learn! First of all, your partner is fully capable of being excellent! They just need to learn the tools and understand their part in the partnership. This is what we specialize in, so you have come to the right place! Too many people procrastinate and use their reasons they need to learn as reasons not to take action. You can do this!! Come in and find the happiness of attaining your desire of dancing!!
It's ok to not know what you want. During your first dance instruction we can try a few different styles to sample what you may like. There is no pressure to have to pick a certain ballroom dance style. As a matter of fact you can dance, take lessons, and change things up at any time.
Private lessons are 45 minutes. They can be scheduled back to back to back if desired as long as the schedule allows.
The earlier the better!! Learning to dance is mental, physical, and spiritual. You have to establish a true connection with each other, not just learn steps. The more time you allow for that, the better off you will be!
There is no wrong answer here. If you love the song and it has meaning to the both of you, then that's the one. If you have a few options, then maybe a decision can be made through how you move together. Splicing 2 songs together is also an option.
There are plenty of places that are opening back up for social dancing. One main factor to consider is what do you like dancing the most? Do you enjoy dancing more than one type of ballroom dance/social dance? In some cases the style of dance doesn't matter, and that's fine too! There are venues that will feature different styles of dance and music. We can make recommendations to help you decide what is best for you.
